Not for me to speak for Newsround, haven’t worked there for over a decade (blimey, time goes by so quickly!)
But while nothing official has yet come from the production team, lots of us journos have long assumed series would start on New Years Day, simply because it makes the most sense (to us).
Not to mention Nicola Methven’s Mirror article a few days ago (she has an excellent record of accurate Doctor Who stories).
So, while don’t have first hand knowledge of what happened with Newsround saying NY Day for a few hours today, would be surprised if they ‘jumped the gun’ with an announcement that had been embargoed or told in confidence.
More likely, a wrong but understandable assumption that the day had been confirmed, which it hasn’t as the production team have consistently been saying ‘early 2020’ and nothing else.
Personally would be very surprised if it wasn’t New Year’s Day, but that’s not based on any official/confidential information from production team. Just my speculation
