Sad, in a way. Because you can tell from interviews with Doug Naylor that he did genuinely care about the show, and did still put his heart into it, but he just wasn't quite able to recreate the same magic without his writing partner.

The seasons since the revival are fine IMO. Not as inspired as the first six, perhaps, but better than 7 and 8 IMO. They're a rare example of a revival I can actually watch and still like. Most of the other revivals we've had in the last decade (X Files, Roseanne/The Connors etc) are unwatchable.

Series 8 is actually my favourite series of the show. I binged watched it the night my mother was in hospital back in October and it really took my mind off everything. I struggle to remember the last time I laughed as much as I did that night. I even bought the script book so I can enjoy the stories in a different form.

There is only one Kochanski.
The one with the staccato smile.

Ms Clare "Happy Birthday" Grogan.

Despite everything, you could imagine her and Dave as a couple.
Chloe Annett?
Gorgeous, but not Kochanski.

Red Dwarf peaked in S1. 1-6 > 7-11, but I have yet to see I season that I didn't like at least some of. I haven't seen 12 yet.

If you liked 10 and 11, you'll like 12.
The one on the ship that has outlawed criticism was a great skewering of the SJW snowflake brigade. LOL

Oh Zarius, why did you have to bring up (even more) female Doctors!? We 'Dwarfers' were enjoying talking about real sci-fi!

Back to 'Dwarf if it so pleases the board...

...I do like a couple of the episodes in series 11 and 12, like the election story and the ship being run by Rimmers...I just didn't feel like it was altogether clicking, and didn't capitalise enough on some of the progression seen in series ten.

That's actually quite a good design. Better than the Cybusmen and the Ironmen. Shame it has to exist in the new era.

Best new Cyber design in decades.
Still won't be watching it though.

No doubt I'll end up getting a figurine of it eventually in my never ending eaglemoss collection...

I agree it looks so much better than any previous NuWho versions.

(Also - I'm running out of space to display my multitudinous Eaglemoss figurines - and I only collect the Classic series releases - God help those who buy the NuWho ones as well!) Confused

My (I hate this word) Man cave has 3 of 4 walls full of display cases of them.
I'm sure they said there would only be 80 parts back when this started in 2013, I just got part 169 today, and it's another shitty chibnall era figurine LOL

Perhaps when the series finally comes to an end I'll flog all the nuwho ones off as a job lot on ebay and I will actually be able to move in my room again...

The sad thing about Naylor was that I always got the impression the dark, original concepts of Red Dwarf were largely his work - season 5 is at times as twisted as sci fi gets. He may be remembered as the one who couldn't hit the same comedic heights without Grant but without Naylor the show could have just been a short-lived Star Trek skit.

Oh and I agree with Pertwees knob about the cyberman design being the best. A shame they'll probably end up as yet another desperate, melodramatic attempt to resuscitate a flatlining series.

I think together they worked beautifully.
As much as I loved Series 1 & 2 back in 88, for me the absolute best Red Dwarf were the novels credited to both of them.
My copies of Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers, Better Than Life & Last Human are falling apart I've read and re-read them so often.

Taking such an interesting concept as the TIV and developing it form the jokey script of Better than Life, and making it such a dark and horrific idea whilst still remaining true to the TV characters was amazing.

The big design mistake with the cybermen is the fact they try to make them all mental and solid. The classics worked because it was robotics attached to essentially a silver body bag. The ability to see the familiar with the unfamiliar is what made them work so well.

It's why I really love the original design so much.

Odd that Eddie on OS is now bashing new who. When I was a member there we always got into fights because I hated RTD so much. Now, he's saying the same things I did back in the day.
