Also, mocking and talking down to a significant portion of your viewer base when the show's ratings are at an all time low perhaps isn't the best idea.

Another heap of shit awards show. Sue Perkins is so painfully unfunny and her comments aren't even close to the truth. I have no problem imagining a female in the role. I do have a problem with the outright smugness of twats like Perkins, Benjamin Cock, Cornell and even Whittaker herself. Still, they're the ones that will have to explain what went so horribly wrong. This isn't an anti-women march like some people think it is. Some of us just don't think an established male character should be turned into a woman on a whim to satisfy people that aren't even fans of the show.

True story I got called a vile woman hating piece of shit on another forum by some guy for saying that Robert Carlyle and Tim Curry would be better choices for the Doctor than Sue Perkins

Funny thing is this guy wasn't a 21 year old soyboy. He was a classic era fan, who really knew his stuff, yet he actually thought that Sue Perkins would be a perfect choice for the Doctor.

Normally I wouldn't care about a joke like this, but when feminists are so ready to get offended over EVERYTHING and get a man fired from his job and blacklisted over a joke, then they 100 percent deserve offence merchants getting up in arms over their remarks in response.

That's an interesting point actually. We're all so furious at this really more because of the people behind the decision than anything else.

I mean we all think a female Doctor is a poor idea creatively for well explored reasons by now that I won't repeat. Still this isn't the first time an idea has happened in a show that I or I'm sure anyone here doesn't like, but I personally have never really been angry at something I don't like in a tv show before.

I didn't like the Buffy/Spike romance for instance. I thought it was cliched, undermined both characters, was extremely out of character for both Spike and Buffy, bogged the show down in soap opera mince, and wasted Spike's much more interesting series 4 characterisation (IMO when you look at Crowley in Supernatural, that's the way Spike was originally headed after series 2, 3 and 4. A self serving, snarky Demon, who only cares about himself, and regularly switches sides for his own benefit, but they threw that away and basically made him Angel mark 2, Vampire in love with Buffy, gets a soul, gets tortured a lot, mopes a lot etc.)

However I never felt angry at that. I just accepted it and moved on. This however always makes me angry because of the poisonous motives behind it.

To start with as we all know it only happened because of a vicious smear campaign against Moffat, second there is the fact that anybody else who even expressed their opinion about it was viciously slandered too like Peter Davison (and Sylvester McCoy back in 2015.) Then there was the obvious misandry and anti white feeling behind it, the public slander from the likes of Gary Russell and Colin Baker of people who had fucking supported them for decades and given them their careers, and the fact that an obvious agenda was taking over every square inch of the franchise, and anyone who even acknowledged that was insulted.

Really Doctor Who is more than just a show that got crap or lost its way. Its a toxic brand now.

The ratings were already dropping and it's a trend I can only imagine to continue. I can see why - even from a neutral perspective there are much better things on television.
The first episode or episodes, if publicised well, will probably get decent ratings. Then people will lose interest, blame it on 'bad writing', and the show will die in an autistic whimper.

I remember the Series 8 trailer being shoved into the build-up for the World Cup final in 2014 and Bill's introduction being teased during halftime of an FA Cup semi-final.
