Star Wars Megathread

Saw Solo last night. It's nothing incredible but is a very fun and entertaining blockbuster. The new Han was, to my surprise, really great. It has a few problems and includes a few things I wish it didn't but did nothing I feared it would and the behind the scenes issues don't translate on screen at all. It ends in a way that feels incomplete and it's clear we'll be seeing the cast on another adventure soon.

Lucasfilm have also confirmed a Boba Fett movie with James Mangold (The Wolverine, Logan) to write and direct.

Yes I heard about Boba Fett. It's nice of them to do another spin off - I wonder when we'll get Jar Jar Binks' tortured backstory as a prequel too?

Solo is underperforming at the box

Honestly, the price of a ticket at my local cinema is a joke at the moment, otherwise, I probably would have gone.

It's too bloody hot for the cinema right now, especially on the coast. People would rather go out for a picnic, an evening in the pub or BBQ on the beach.

'Solo: A Star Wars story' was actually pretty good. I weren't particularly enthused to see it but I was pleasantly surprised. The cast was excellent, especially. Kind of a shame that it's doing so poorly financially.

For the record I liked The Last Jedi, despite the many bizarre decisions they made in that film.

Bit long at 20 mins but it absolutely nails my problems with the film. The awkward use of staid humour that punctures the tone. The final 3rd of the film was great for me but the rest of the time... meh...

She's the one in charge of Disney SW, and who appears to be more interested in filling with the series with agendas than actual storytelling (sounds familiar).

Kathleen Kenendy is an SJW and SJW's will always prioritise their so called progressive agenda over good story telling. In my opinion she has ruined the Star Wars films and needs to go so I hope that rumour is true.

Saw Solo, wasn't entirely sold on it but would look forward to another. It seemed obsessed with trying to pull off surprises that you could mostly see a mile coming and killing off characters you didn't care about. I was glad when L3 died but still mystified as to why Star Wars thinks we should care about the deaths of robots when they can be rebuilt.

Then there is the usual crappy poorly timed comedy. The acting was great, along with the effects they were the best bit of this. The Choreography of the battle scenes just seemed like an attempt to cram as many explosions per minute as possible.

The worst thing with the Last Jedi was Rian Johnson. Not as a director, or as a writer, but as a person. The guy is a gigantic cunt that would rather start a war than take criticism.

As for the 'harassment' towards Kelly Marie Tran – it’s part of the job, as an actress. If you put yourself in the public sphere like that, as an adult, you should be prepared for the likes of this. Of course, it isn't 'nice', but it's the real world. It's honestly more on Rian for giving such a shitty character to such a sensitive actress - than it is to 'those evil Last Jedi detractors'.

There was also the 'No Women' cut that made the news. That was a joke. Of course a lot of people condescendingly 'laughed' at the film - deluding themselves into believing that those naughty Last Jedi critics launched it as part of their evil scheme against their mortal enemies - women. In reality ... those people don't exist. It was just a joke.

As for the politics in the new films, I think its overblown. You have to look for it. The Last Jedi's 'evil white males' versus 'benevolent diverse people ... mostly females' didn't really work considering how incompetent the Resistance came across in that film. There are evidently a few too many incompetents involved in these films who are damaging art and business, this should be dealt with - but it doesn't mean you can't enjoy the films.

The guy was an abysmal writer, and terrible artist. Even if he was fired for political reasons and not for quality control or sales - it's justified. PR is a significant part of the job as a sub-writer and representative of a major franchise.

Of course, the guy's a victim. Oh shit, who'd have expected that when you taint art with controversial, alienating politics and make externally very divisive comments: that you'd anger people who would act in turn. One-star reviews? Nasty comments on the internet? I weep with you.

Good riddance. Hopefully this is a sign that Disney is cleaning up the mess they've made - realizing that petty politics doesn't sell.
