Doctor Who lacks a major factor for a successful TV show - regular and consistent new shows - it's a bloody see saw - HERE WE GO YET AGAIN.

That's a good point about the long gaps between series. I have to say I like the look of the monster in the first post, I guess it's too much to hope it's Missy taking a Deadly Assassin/Keeper of Traken type form and we'll be getting a new actor/actress soon?

Her inexperience really does mark her out as an odd choice.

I can't help but feel that the show has fallen so much in terms of public interest that both the new Doctor and companion need to be "names" to drag them back for series 11 (like Eccles/Piper).

The original series looked cheap compared to 1977 Star Wars in the first place. There's corners you can cut. Never show their face just back of their heads and shots of their costumes being worn by a body double. That's a huge cop out, but what else is there? And because they can, does this mean they need to?
But it all comes back to can they even write a story featuring older Doctors and keep their essence as well as the tone of the current series? (It's time to stop calling a 12 year old series "New". I know, it's just a phrase that's stuck, but it's not New New)

The only other alternative is Poo Who, so I can understand why they stuck with it.

I am just glad they haven't renamed it Steven Moffat's Doctor Who. They might as well considering how much he has rubbed his balls all over it

I read an article with James Nesbitt last week where he says he turned down the chance to replace Capaldi. Whilst he apparently said it'd be "career suicide" to have tried taking over from Tennant I get the feeling he's not a fan of the show and it's not the draw it might have been back then, either.

Are there any of us left here who will still watch this when it starts? I keep telling myself not to bother but I feel my resolve slipping.

I'll probably give the first episode a go to see the new girl but if it's as bad as what I watched last night...
I honestly can't sit through this stuff, it's physically painful to me.
Chibbers has a task of Herculean proportions to fix this mess.
I hate to say it, but I don't like Capaldi either. He's got zero presence, charisma, charm, or "twinkle", and his attempts to be wacky are even more embarrassing than Tennant. Bottom of the pile of all the Doctors for me, I'm afraid. Can't wait for him to go (along with Mofftwat).

I will. I dropped the show twice already--after series 4 (still haven't seen the Tennant specials) and series 6--yet here I am, buying series 9 because it was there and it'd mean I didn't have to stream it, just to catch up.

If I'm still with a show 10 series deep I'm there until it gets cancelled or ends.

Ian is right - watching the show now makes those already brutalised by RTD's crass showrunning feel like they're being beaten up. At least that's how it makes me feel (though Death In Heaven did the opposite and made me turn temporarily into Begbie from Trainspotting!)
