"Ghost Monument"

"Fairly...errrgh...boring" LOL

Some nice character moments, but one action set-piece and then more talking (Call of Duty training?)...and then a bunch of rags attack everybody...um, yeah, could have done with more of the androids instead.

And there's just something not realistic about the group being completely ok with the Doctor even when she screws up...they're all going to die? "Great, fine by us Doc, we've got hope"...yeah, f off, lose your temper for christ's sake, you're a human being. Backhand the woman Shocked

This one fell short of the mark I'm afraid.

No doubt Youtube's MrReTARDIS, Doc Freedom's 10/10 Files, the Whore Addicts, and Hatrixlord will find plenty to praise here...but yeah, this one fell flat for me.

LOL glad I didn't watch this one. Ironically though I was watching Bradley Walsh in the chase celebrity special. Big Grin I guess he won out either way.

Incidentally have you heard of the youtuber Clever Dick Films? Give his channel a watch. He only reviews Classic Who for the moment. He's quite fair and even handed though. He isn't a rabid new who hater like many here LOL, and he isn't against a female Doctor, but he's quite a fair, decent guy, and doesn't tar anyne who disagrees with a female Doctor as sexist either. He says he understands people not being happy with it. One of the few genuine people in the middle on this debate.

I didn't like that one at all. The "I don't use guns" bit just made me groan and I hated the overuse of the Sonic Screwdriver. I enjoyed Shaun Dooley's performance but there wasn't much else that really stood out for me.

Hmm. Given the new Doctor, maybe they should've called it "Menarche in the UK".

I didn't see the episode.

Reviews seem more mixed, which is slightly reassuring.

I'm going to throw an early bet that the 'Timeless Child' is Susan.

Not sure about 'Rosa', a politically satisfying race-centric episode written by an ebony fetishist. I'm going to guess we're in for an atrocious, probably historically incorrect, episode; and critical acclaim: because - of course.

'Doctor Who viewers call for Jodie Whittaker to be REPLACED just two episodes in.'

https://www.dailystar.co.uk/showbiz-tv/hot-tv/736428/Doctor-Who-series-11-Jodie-Whittaker-replaced-Bradley-Walsh-Graham

Seems that people aren't quite so keen as most of the media has been making out. Nice of the article to pick sensible criticisms rather than cherry-picking comments and congealing the naysayers into a lump labelled, 'misogynists'.

Really, the positive comments are comical:

One said: "Gotta say, I'm loving Jodie Whittaker as the Doctor in the new series of Doctor Who. A badass woman saving the world. Hell yeah!"

And the sentiment was echoed by another fan, who simply said: "Best Doctor Who since David Tennant. Jodie Whittaker, brilliant."

I hope this can become something beautiful.

Judging from the complete lack of interest already on other (mainstream) sites (compared to last week) it seems the novelty of the castrated Doctor has already worn off. LOL

Ratings are in, the drop offs have started. 7.1 million, just a million short of last week, and I bet a lot of that is due to those tuning in for the drama of Strictly

A million-drop is completely standard post-premiere.

I am, however, thinking that the ratings might be bloated by the 'digital/on-demand viewers' and, indeed, the people tuning in pre-Strictly etc. It's probably going to be a slow decline, possibly a relative peak for 'Rosa' - especially if gets the critical acclaim generally lavished onto anything 'brave' enough to talk about racism.

Unusually, the breakdown confirms the audience grew during the episode rather than dropped off.

Also, consolidated figures for last week's were 10.1m.

No signs of a huge backlash so far. Seems like the general pubic like it.

The IMDb ratings are currently 7.7 and 7.2 for the first two episodes respectively, which are below average. 7.2 puts 'the Ghost Monument' amongst the most lowly regarded episodes such as 'Kill the Moon' (7.1); if not quite to 'Fear Her' standards (6.1). IMDb is a fairly good reflection of public conception.

Also note the 'new and improved' IMDb description: 'The further adventures in time and space of the alien adventurer known as the Doctor, a Time Lord/Lady who can change appearance and gender by regenerating when near death, and his/her human companions'.

I couldn't care if the fucking thing got 50 million viewers, I always used to watch Doctor Who for thought provoking brain-food, NuWho is the opposite and like pushing the Dimmer switch on your brain instead.

Even RTD's fucking drivel seemed like high art compared to the moroniverse spackovision we are now presented with.

I have literally no interest in watching a Barby doll in a fucking Mork-suit saying, "Eeeeee, ah fell owt me TARDIS, like!"

I wouldn't take the IMDB ratings too seriously. Journey's End has a 9.1 rating which means that only two episodes from the classic series (Genesis Part Six and War Games Episode 10) are better than it. Sheer bollocks.

They also loved the Tennant era which was abysmal.

The awful taste of the British general public doesn't surprise me anymore.
These are the same people who love end of the pier talent shows, karaoke contests,Ballroom dancing & Baking competitions.
These are the TV tastes of a generation who've made Jeremy Kyle a multi millionaire.

I don't think we're going to see decent Doctor Who again, and we certainly wont be watching the modern equivalents of I Claudius, Edge Of Darkness or Brideshead Revisited anytime soon.

Exactly, the more brainless and tacky the entertainment, the more populist it is with the British mass moronity.

I expect the next Doctor will be a one legged juggling midget or something.

Nope, the only way we will ever get anything like good Doctor Who ever again is when the current aberration falls out of favour with the public and is cancelled and via fan-circles again, i.e. independently made such as BBV/Reeltime or something like Star Trek Continues which was made for the pure love of the original series in that particular franchises case.

It doesn't tell you how good something is, but it's a fairly accurate gauge of what the masses thought of it - which is what I'm looking for.

The IMDb ratings are massively inflated for NuWho in general, and within that they're pretty inconsistent in regards to actual episode quality.

Classic Who is also disgustingly underrated. Which morons are reviewing those episodes? The average is about 7.5 season-per-season, which is essentially 'bad' by IMDb standards. My guess is it's the uncivilized brutes who are giving 10s, en masse, to the pantomime that has been Series 11.

Details on Episodes 5 & 6:

http://www.digitalspy.com/tv/doctor-who/news/a868452/doctor-who-series-11-episode-5-6/

'Episode 5 is 'The Tsuranga Conundrum' – written by Chris Chibnall, directed by Jennifer Perrott, and featuring guest stars Suzanne Packer, Ben Bailey Smith, Brett Goldstein and Lois Chimimba.'

A base under siege from the sound of it.

' ... episode 6 'Demons of the Punjab' – written by Vinay Patel, directed by Jamie Childs (who also helmed 'The Woman Who Fell to Earth') and featuring guest spots from Shane Zaza, Amita Suman and Hamza Jeetooa.'

Might be an anti-British Empire romp.

'Put your hand up if you're excited for a Yaz-centric episode!'
