80s Appreciation Thread

Post things you love from the decade.

My cars - '84 Firebird and '83 Lincoln

I think the cars of the 2010s suck about as much as New Who. I obviously have a computer that will get on the internet, but I do my best to pretend the 80s are still here.

I keep a copy of the Top Gun soundtrack in the 'Bird, listen to it all the time.

I love that album. Heaven in Your Eyes by Loverboy is possibly my favourite out of all the songs. I really wish I could have experienced the 80s first hand.

Heaven was the 1980s.

Those are good movies too (both from '83), if you haven't seen them.

What were your best cinema experiences back then?

I've always wished I was around to see the 60s!

I've always preferred to stay home and watch stuff on video rather than go to the theater, even when I was a kid. Those two movies above are ones I first saw when they came out on video in ~84. I do remember being excited about some movies I saw in the theater in the 80s: BTTF I and II, Aliens, Star Trek IV.

Here's another one of my favorites from 1984 (on Betamax!) - its got some good music too...

Movie artwork was really something back then!

This seems like an appropriate thread to show off some of my records:

I always loved cheesy 80s fantasy films like The Never Ending Story, Legend, Krull, Return to Oz, Labyrinth etc. They were like a cross between the old Ray Harryhausen movies and modern fantasy flicks.

On the one hand they were a bit grittier and more violent than the old Harryhausen films, but on the other they still had a certain low budget, do it yourself charm to them.

Also as CGI hadn't taken over completely yet, then the sets, castles etc were actually sets and not just third rate computer landscapes.

Whilst I like the Hobbit, personally I find Legend to be more effective.

I've just ordered the Blu of Secret of My Success. Long time since I've seen it.

My favourite record. The rare 25th Anniversary Album features Keff's score music from Season 24 and Remembrance as well as every theme tune up until that point.



I really love this track in particular:

I thought I had the Top Gun soundtrack on vinyl, but I can't seem to find it. One of these days I'd like to pick up a vinyl copy of Doctor in Distress.

Speaking of Ray Harryhausen, Clash of the Titans (1981) is another one of my favorites.

(On Betamax!)

Best thing about Clash of the Titans for me was this dear Godsend of a beauty.

The Tripods. What a superb series:

Some of the best super robot shows came from the 80’s.
