I really enjoyed series 8 and series 9 had it's moments. For all of the faults in his run, Capaldi has been great as the Doctor, the best in nuwho and possibly better than a bunch of the classics. There's no doubt I'm going to miss him.

He's going to end up my least favourite (of the 'proper' Doctors (ie ones with at least a season)) but this season has at least shown that's not his fault. 8 and 9 were complete garbage for the most part. At least it seems he may get to have one solid season before he goes.

The obvious thing of course is if the aliens have such badass technology *to replicate even the Doctor's behaviour in a simulated version of him,* then a) how the fuck did they do that? and ii) if the tech is that advanced that they can scan 4.5 billion people's mind from space and god knows what else (pun intended) then surely they can just like, walk right in and take over whenever they want with no trouble whatsoever. WHY GO TO SUCH BOTHER? Even The Android Invasion got me on this point. Who gathered all the data in the first place? If you're close enough to get that much detail then surely you could just take over? Surely?

Yet still, none of his stories stand out as truly excellent in the way City of Death or Caves of Androzani do - other opinions are available.

I don't disagree. But fairly consistently "pretty good" is such a step up from most of the last 5 years it feels like a blessed fucking relief at this point. Wink

Just to be pedantic over this one point:

BILL: I'll tell you what I don't understand. You've been lecturing here for a long time. Like, fifty years, some people say. Nabeela in the office says over seventy.

http://www.chakoteya.net/DoctorWho/36-1.html

So it would appear she was sentenced to 1000 years but has only done about 70.

Her introduction was also terrible because it retroactively downgraded the threat from the GI in The Name of the Doctor by having positioned Clara so the Doctor wouldn't lose, FFS. aND Yes, her first appearance was the most mind bendingly nonsensical but the next one with the Daleks was a shitty story anyway and was tonally fucked - at least partly because of her inclusion.

Ah okay fair enough, but still TBH she seems kind of lame for not being able to escape in 70 years.

I know it sounds arrogant but I have a hard time believing anyone when they say that Missy is great never mind the best Master after Delgado. Its insane that people still go on about Ainley, Roberts and Simm being too camp and not true to the character, yet Missy, a kinky Poppins, is true to the character?

I know Simm, and Ainley in their worst moments had some pretty stupid plans, but at least they were always an enemy to the Doctor. The Doctor actually had to think his way out of situations and suffered when he went against those two Masters.

Missy again what has he had to do? She gave him the army, no strings attached in her first appearance. She put him and Clara together, she helped Clara find him, she saved Clara and the Doctor from the Daleks.

And now she is someone that he has to save and feed LOL. Even if she finally does something in her last appearance then its a bit too late.

Whilst I know he trolls I understand Toiletman's frustration in Simm still being singled out as the camp, or silly Master.

Is Missy a terrible character or is Moffat a terrible writer? Same thing really. Simm apparently told Moffat he was eager to come back when Tennant left so why bring in a new Master? Moffat's ego. Michelle Gomez is a great actress but Missy is the nadir of Moffat ideas - I say that only cos the Cyberbrig at least had the decency to fuck off and never come back!

I will say one thing about last Saturday's episode. At least Missy had another side of her character shown when facing execution.
But it's going to be same old, same old isn't it for the rest of the series.

I enjoyed the conceit twist. The industriousness and heroism of the simulated Doctor in the face of the worst news any intelligent lifeform could get, was gripping stuff, and the dispersion of Bill and of Nardole were genuinely chilling and full of pathos.

The effect was to engage the notion, not just of mortality, but of the nature of existence itself.

Oh, and the monsters are fucking horrific (in the right way). I hope there is a national epidemic of bed-wetting after the reveal of those things.

I'm with you, old friend, but I'm guessing we're seeing the forum equivalent of the kinds of bands that form after the naming of the genre that others have defined.

Good central SF idea, scary monsters, a sense of a genuine threat approaching Earth for the first time this year, all good!
Seal was right, no idea what some of you cunts are whining at! Big Grin

They whine because this is The Hive: The Place Where They Whine About PooWho. That's just what people thought this place was and never realised it was more nuanced than that. Now it's a place you can just be a cartoon internet moaner.

burrunjor wrote:Her other masterplan meanwhile is to bring the Doctor and Clara together because the Doctor will love her so much that he will destroy the universe to save Clara. Of course not only does that not happen, but Clara actually through retconning bullshit makes the Doctor the hero he is, and saves him in every story. Thus Missy is actually responsible for all of her own past defeats. And on top of that Clara becomes a super hero in her own right.

Do you have bits of this whole screed saved so you can copy and paste them in random orders? Because, if not, considering the frequency with which you type out near word-for-word variants of the same points, you could save yourself a lot of time and effort.

Yeah lets go back to the glory days of posting porn, doxxing, people being told they deserve to die of cancer because they don't like Old Who etc. That was all fine, but posting an opinion you personally disagree with is taking things too far.

And ironically cartoons were made from the rants of people on the old hive.

PS Rob and Rani please come back!

Someone really animated posts from the Hive? Why did nobody bring this up sooner? I could have been doing shit like this:

I didn't make that video but I know how to use the software and had the pro version that didn't put a watermark in the corner. Get a couple of people willing to do the voices and we could have been doing something fun instead of being miserable pricks.

Cartoons that gave people exactly that one-dimensional impression about the place, yes.

Also, Barlow was doxxed, yes, and that was something that I vehemently and openly disagreed with. However, it happened because he was a horrible fascist and, amazing as it might seem, there was once a time when the majority of people on The Hive considered that a negative.

I only joined the Hive a year ago (pretty much to the day) and didn't bother with much beyond the threads being posted in. One time I started just going through pages and clicking threads and ended up in a thread where Seal was posting gay porn aimed at another member, so I stuck with recent threads.

He was unpopular on The Hive because of his archaic attitude towards women.
