Star Trek Beyond. Good guys have weapon, bad guys want it, bad guys take it... You can guess the rest. Really quite average and straightforward. Lovely Enterprises sets and then the ship gets wrecked and we never see them again. Get to explore an alien planet which was nice but the film was all surface.

It was a big improvement over Into Darkness but it wasn't anything special.

I haven't seen a movie since Jurassic World the other night. The kids were annoying, other characters were bland, and the CGI wasn't up to scratch. The practical effect were stellar but there were far too few of them.

Best part of the movie was one of the random park guests trying to save his drink as dinosaurs caused havoc around him.

I saw Arrival the other day. I recommend it. And Trainspotting 2. I will say that Arrival was intelligent and emotive. The ending petered out but that actually suited the film and there was a time travel element to it. All very nicely done Big Grin

Bad Neighbours 2. It got a couple of small laughs out of me but ended being a poor sequel nobody asked for to an already mediocre movie. It felt like they put more time into pushing a half-arsed feminism plot than they did jokes.

The Neon Demon. I don't know what to make of it, I'll have to think it over and rewatch it before I can come to a verdict. The cinematography was great, the soundtrack was dreamlike and haunting and the film as a whole was as stylish as you'd expect from Nicolas Winding Refn. The movie was odd, even by his standards... That necrophelia scene. silent

I tried watching the new Underworld one but I just can't pay attention to it. They all blur into one. Looking forward to Split, though.

I wish I had taken your advice but it had good points and there really was nothing else on. Wasn't convinced by the lead. Though, it was always going to be a hard job. But he was supposed to have 23 people living in him and we see about 5 of those, really, what is the point?

I found it very disappointing and bafflingly overrated. Not a great start to the year.

Captain America: Civil War. It wasn't as good as The Winter Soldier but at least it was better than the Avengers movies and Thor 2.

RoboCop 3 and it was quite enjoyable and entertaining actually. My opinion has changed on it over the years and I think I was a little too harsh on it in my youth, thinking I was too cool for it because it was toned down.
An 8.5/10 film for sure and yet another underrated 90s sequel that deserves more respect. The first RoboCop is the still the best but I'd say 3 is probably second best.

Thor: Ragnarok. I've enjoyed Taika Waititi's other stuff and had some hopes for this, disappointingly it was your average Marvel flick. Lots of quips, no sense of threat or tension, a bland villain and a whole lot of terrible CGI and green screen.

Justice League.
Nowhere near as bad as everyone made it sound and a lot better than it had any right to be considering how it was made by people with drastically different styles and tones. In the end you're left with a movie that looks like it was made for TV--in terms of cinematography and terrible CGI that was most likely rushed due to the production troubles--and a whole lot of Joss Whedon's trademark quips. Snyder's and Whedon's styles and tones clash too much to please fans of either of them and don't have enough of either to justify hate from the audience that don't like either of them. You watch it, you move on with no strong feelings.

Murder on the Orient Express.
I'm usually wary about directors who cast themselves in the main role but Kenneth Branagh did well in both duties and the film was surprisingly tense for another retelling of a famous story. There's a shot sequence in there that took me back to Insomnia and Zodiac. Enjoyable movie, will probably watch again and look forward to the sequel.

Ernest Goes to Jail. It's a childhood favourite of mine.

It's an incredibly stupid movie that makes no sense whatsoever, but it's just so ridiculously wacky, goofy and utterly bizarre that it's actually really enjoyable and endearing in a very peculiar way.

That was a breath of fresh air compared to Man of Steel and the torrid Batman v Superman. I still didn't like it but I appreciate the lighter tone. It was nice to hear the Elfman Batman theme and the John Williams Superman theme again.

I'd rather paper cut my glans and dip it in spirit vinegar than watch most superhero movies.

They're a negentropic reflection of our desperation for a saviour in a world full of chaos and uncertainty; pacifiers for the masses who would rather suck on the teet of escapism than actually do something about the world.

"A Good Year", directed by Ridley Scott and starring Russell Crowe but a far cry from their previous 'collaboration' (is it correct to call it that?), the swords and sandals classic "Gladiator".

Anyone who enjoyed "A Year In Provence" (I've fond memories of seeing it when growing up) would like this, updated and with a touch of cynical City-based drama. It got crap reviews, but not from me!

Shallow Grave, it doesn't get enough credit for restarting the British film sector, albeit in a minor way, as it's often eclipsed by Trainspotting. Danny Boyle is a great director but often overlooked in favour of Chris Nolan. This film takes me back. Hated them at the time but I do miss the 90s. LOL

'The Room' by Tommy Wiseau.

A tour de force in filmmaking. A true landmark in cinematic history. Easily one of the most well acted and well written movies I've ever seen in my life. I broke down in tears when Johnny told Lisa with such conviction and raw emotion that she is "tearing him apart".

To anyone reading this, I urge you to stop whatever you are doing and go and watch this masterpiece in all it's glory right this instant. It will literally change your perspective on life.
