What did you think of this rather maligned companion. Did you think it was a good idea on paper let down by bad execution or just a bad idea all round?

The latter.
Just another case where JNT's 'putting the expense onscreen' approach took precedence over having enough story to justify it.
I did hear a fan rumour once that Kamelion was actually meant to be in Resurrection of the Daleks in place of Stien. It would be lovely and fitting if it was true, but I doubt it was.

I actually forget about him half the time. I agree with most fans that he was a wasted concept.

That can sometimes be a good thing. No unnecessary aggravation from people.

It only hurts for me when people I thought I had a good relationship with in the past don't remember me. That's the ultimate humiliation next to getting your arse flicked with a wet towel in the male changing rooms. I still have the scars today.

Join the club.
Jokes aside, now we've all had a little cry about how fucked things are, let's not try and put the thread on too much of a downer.

Indeed. My energies are low and I could probably do with a recharging though.
I could do with putting a happier new face on.
Maybe a foreign holdiay would do me good too.

I think Kamelion could have been good, he worked well in The King's Demons - but he just disappeared only to not appear again (without much explanation as to what he was doing in the Tardis for all that time) until Planet of Fire. I think it would have been better if he had either just been a 1 story character in King's Demons, or if they had actually included him on a regular basis up to Planet of Fire. Not that I think including Kamelion in Planet of Fire was a bad idea, but it does leave you wondering what he was doing all that time. "It was a good idea let down by bad execution."

I think it was one of those ideas that seemed like a good one at the time. Sometimes last minute choices pay off - like with K9.
Sometimes they don't.
I'd say the real issue was that they needed a proper human actor to be his "human" face. If they'd done that, it could have worked, but because they solely relied on the robot, they screwed themselves.
