Since stepping back from the show in 2012 Gillan has gone on to achieve Hollywood fame, appearing in the likes of Marvel’s Avengers franchise and Jumanji.
With her success has come a lot of reflection and the redhead admitted she wasn’t entirely proud of her performance on Doctor Who.
“I’d go back to the first half of the first series that I did and just redo that acting,” she told Fandom.
“I know a lot more about acting now. I was a wee child,” she added.
Elsewhere, Gillan reflected on the prospect of a Doctor Who film, which she predicted was unlikely to make it past TV execs.
In fact, she recalled early talks to get Jonny Depp on board to play the iconic Time Lord for a big screen adaptation.
“There’s always talk of that [Doctor Who movie],” she continued.
“And Johnny Depp was going to play The Doctor. This was, like, a long time ago.

“But the BBC aren’t going to let that happen? No way! They’re like, ‘This is our flagship show!’”
