Burnside Batgirl and Whedon are unfortunatly a match made in hell, which is why I'll avoid that movie when it comes out.

I'm going to have to agree with you but I'll have to rewatch the show again and not burn out like last time to be sure. Season 5 was awful.

The truth is that Joss only knows how to write the same handful of characters and his claims of being a feminist have always clashed with his habit of having actresses act out his fetishes.

I thought Glory was an terrible villain and everything about the season arc bored me to tears. I can't remember any standout episodes, people rave about Buffy's mum dying but I don't think it lives up to the hype.

The entire season was a load of shit and I don't get how people can have a good word for it. I think I mentioned before that when I saw it I was watching the entire DVD boxset without breaks so it's entirely possible I was just fed up of the show by that point.

From what I remember there wasn't even a full seasons worth of episodes in the entire show that were worth watching. Twelve at most.

It's one of the best seasons of fantasy television ever made in my view. So ner ner ner ner ner.

IMO season 5 of Angel is the best season of the show. You can't top Spike and Angel together. One of the best double acts in tv. You get powerful dramatic moments like their showdown in Destiny, great comedy like the Astronauts vs Caveman bit, and a brilliant backstory too. Any scene with them is gold IMO.

Season 5 of Buffy I have mixed feelings for meanwhile. I like Glory. She's a great villain, and a nice inversion of the horror movie cliche of the little blonde being the helpless victim like Buffy herself, though Glory I'd argue is an even more effective inversion as she is a terrifying monster.

However I am not overly keen on the whole Spike/Buffy romance. It felt like both characters were given a personality transplant though there were some funny bits.

Similarly Buffy's mum dying IMO is overrated. I didn't like the episode where she died as it was just a soap opera ep. Still I did think the acting from all involved was top notch. Also the bit where her mums corpse walks by the window never fails to creep me out. God that bit is so scary.

Um, there is no Buffy/Spike romance in season 5, except solely on Spike's side.

I knew this was going to happen. He has been a royal arsehole for months on twitter. I've been hoping for his sake they'd chase him off a lot sooner.

That's when it begins. Spike was my favourite character as a child and I remember hating seeing him become such a pussy in season 5 LOL.

Spike should either have got a spin off with Faith (which they wanted to do at one point) or crossed over into Angel.

Him and Faith would have been amazing together. It would have made more sense as she's more his type, and he didn't have the past relationship as her enemy either. Its stupid the way Spike goes from wanting to kill Buffy to wanting to fuck her instantly. Again its like a personality transplant and similarly when Buffy suddenly wants to shag him in season 6 it just comes out of nowhere.

On the subject of Buffy's fifth season I think that there is something of a fifth season curse on American genre series.

Babylon 5 for instance its fifth season was the worst. Apart from the G'Kar/Londo scenes (which are always pure dynamite) its kind of a bit dull and uninspired. The telepath story arc is as legendarily shit as everyone says too.

Xena season 5 is possibly the worst season of any classic genre series (apart from DW S8) My god its just so shit! From how lame they make the gods, to the baby story arc, to Eve and Livia (dreadful character played by an unbelievably inept actress), to the godawful way they wrap up the Xena/Callisto feud (which was as good as Holmes/Moriarty, Batman/Joker in its heyday)

Once Upon A Time's fifth season is also shit. Hades is fucking lame. His whole motivation is just to fuck the Wicked Witch of the West. They also waste Peter Pan and Robbie Kay which I can't forgive LOL, they make Rumple go evil for no reason after his big redemption story arc, and worst of all they do stupid things like have Cora ascend to Heaven, whilst Milah and Dorothy's granny go to hell!

Finally I noticed how shit Charmed got in season 5 on my latest rewatch. They make the sisters into such bitches the way they treat Cole. Why did they think he was evil? He was only evil because the Source possessed him? Then after making him a good guy for the season he just goes mad for no reason. It really was lame.

Buffy season 5 I wouldn't say was anywhere near as bad as these other seasons, but I do think that the cracks that would affect later series began to appear however, like Spike being in love with Buffy, more focus on the soap opera elements, Dawn etc.

I suppose Angel is the only one I can think of that not only avoids this rule, but ironically season 5 is probably the best season of Angel (or Buffy IMO)

Still I think just as there is a third film curse on film series then there is a 5th season curse on many American genre series. They just seem to not only run out of steam in those seasons, but make their craziest and stupid decisions that year.

I'm sorry, I quite like Angel season 5 (more than the first three anyway) but in no universe is it better than season 5 of Buffy.

The fifth season of Community was also the worst by far, not so much a genre show but a cult comedy. Linking back to what you said about crazy and stupid ideas, I think 3 of the 13 episodes were episodes of Community, the rest were high concept/parody episodes.

It's funny because both Heroes and Prison Break ended their original runs with 4 seasons only to be brought back for season 5 years later, and both doubled down on the stupidity.

To be fair, I enjoyed the Prison Break spin-off, Breakout Kings. T-Bag shows up for an episode or 2 and gives it his all as usual. Pretty sure he was the only reason I managed to make it through all of Prison Break, he makes even the worst dialogue fun.

I wasn't looking forward to the film and I'm less interested in it now that Whedon is involved even just for reshoots and post-production.

What Zack Snyder is going through must be awful though.

Not interested anyway. Aside from the GOTG films, I can't stand any of these movies, sick to death of them.

Now his old Wonder Woman script is causing a stir. I'm sure it's been online for awhile but has obviously had more attention because of the Wonder Woman movie coming out and people wanting to compare the versions. You can read the script here.

Be warned, both links have more than their fair share of awful.

Do you think this will hurt the Batwoman movie he's directing, or more likely hurt his chance of directing it since DC already has a full slate of movies for years to come with no set release dates? It's still early enough that they could fire him with no delays.
