I haven't been keeping up with the news, but this is May's deputy who the police claim had copious amounts of porn on his laptop?

OK, why were they searching his laptop? He may be suspected of something vile but having any amount of legal porn is no news ordinarily. Can't blame the Police for wanting to stitch the Tories after all the cuts and accusations of lying during the election campaign which the Tories just flat out lied their way through.

But this just smacks of trying to provoke a sex scandal of the back of more serious assault charges that have consumed the media lately. And that's weak. I would hope the Police would be above that.

Do I have any of this wrong? Like I say, I am not sure of all the details, but this just seems a bit petty. Old guy has porn, no news.

It's all about the context, really. In normal circumstances this could have just led to a few nudge-nudge, wink-wink jokes - but the way that Green denies having had anything to do with these images gives the impression he's not in control of his department (if not his urges), which contributes to the general Teresa May Government narrative - which is getting increasingly similar to the John Major Government narrative. And despite the blanket coverage of Prince Harry's upcoming wedding the fact this has topped the news bulletins regardless indicates it isn't going to end until a resignation or dismissal.

Not a good few weeks for the Government, after Boris's blunders re: Iran, Priti Patel having to quit and now this : -

Public interest: it's his works PC, paid for by the public and used in a way that would have got any other mortal the bullet in their wage-slave job.

Plus, he's clearly lying about it (given what you can infer from the retired detective's notes).

Had it happened at home it would've been nobody's business, but Green has clearly lied and spent enormous amounts of his public-funded time taking his mini-Picard to warp 7.

The Tories are crying about a 'police state', but that's risible. This is simply an isolated breach of the code in order to expose a sanctimonious liar i.e. a whistle blow.

Had Green been honest and said 'I'm sorry, I had some personal problems at the time and got hooked on nudey pics.' he could have saved himself all this hassle.

Instead, he's taken to making implausible denials outside his country home where he can barely look at the camera with any sincerity.

I agree, he's resorted to the classic schoolboy defence method.

Let's hope the next time he stands in for Teresa May at PMQs he doesn't behave like this : -

"I don't want to go" said Damian, but Teresa sacked him anyway...
