He's got to be in this finale somehow.

It's not impossible he might be in the last scene or something (like Donna or Santa Claus) but otherwise I doubt it. Xmas special it is.

Watching The Doctor Falls as I have a spot of supper... take Death In Heaven and add a shit John Simm & Matt Lucas, and hey presto.
There's a long face in my living room tonight, and I'm not referring to Pearl Mackie.

Come on it wasn't that bad. Death in Heaven is the shittest DW story ever made ever!
In fact I'd say that this one was the best of the Capaldi era finale's, though granted that's not saying much. It was still pretty bad though I agree, just not as toe curlingly awful as Hell Bent or shudder Death in Heaven.
The Master/Missy stuff was absolutely pointless. In fact Missy's whole presence this year was completely pointless. Seriously why bother with all of that her being good in the vault when she ultimately did bugger all in this finale? With all of these dangling plot threads from the Zygons, to the Minister of War, to Rassilon, to how did Gallifrey come back, Moffat chose to waste his last year having Missy go good, only for her to not do anything in the finale?
Shame Michelle Gomez who is an excellent actress was wasted really in every way. She was crowbarred into a role she was all wrong for (she would have been a fab Rani), but she also didn't even get to do really anything in said role. You could take her out of this story, all of her stories in season 10 and the Dalek two parter, and there would be no difference. Only Death in Heaven gives her an important role, and again she doesn't do much in that and is beaten by a no thanks!
Also what was the point of having John Simm come back? He was excellent as always of course, but my god all he did was just stand at the back and make jokes about becoming a woman LOL. That's it! And the end bit was stupid. He killed Missy? So what is the Master dead for good now?
It would have been better if they had taken the Masters out of it and allowed the Cybermen to just be the main villains again.
Also the Cybermen were undermined. Once again they don't get a finale to themselves. That's 3 times they've had to share it with another badguy in New Who. Also what did they even do in the story? They just stood around, got blown up, and were killed by an explosion that failed to kill a dying Doctor and a partially converted Cyberman LOL. Yet another conversion was also undone, another companion's death was undone, and finally we had another companion exploring the universe like Clara.
The continuity porn was also off the charts "I don't want to go", "I will always remember when the Doctor was me". Why even bother having the RTD era companions or Amy and Rory in there? 12 never met them. Also I HATE the way they turned Capaldi into a whiny Tennant style bitch about regeneration. Why repeat that when just about everybody hated it the first time round?
The cameo at the end was nice though, and Capaldi was excellent as was indeed all the cast, and the basic story idea was interesting, but still it felt let down by some misguided decisions, and trying to cram too much in there.

Of course not. The classic era did this permadeath buisness with The Master all the time. Even RTD did it.

True, but I think it's more likely that they will insert Masters between Missy and Simm. They seemed very non-committal on tying the two together with Missy saying she can't remember exactly. Besides, bring in a regeneration after here would undermine what happened in this episode.
Then again, they did just that with Clara coming back in Hell Bent. So who knows?

You know, I'm actually getting more and more annoyed by this every time I think about it.
Moffat fails to put any old series Doctors in the 50th bar 30 seconds of Tom, and then in his final story (and Capaldi's) decides to do a multi-Doctor story? And THEN, rather than bring back one of the still living old Doctors, chooses to recast! His old 50th argument about not using the other Doctors - they don't look the same anymore - hardly washes now, does it? Bradley looks fuck all like Hartnell!

I also think they held off showing Simm regenerating because they might want to use him again, and they have the in-built thing now of time lords resisting regeneration and holding it back as proven by the instances of The Doctor doing it to various degrees
