As the youngsters say. He would have been 100 today

The ONLY real Master, all others were just imitating.

He also had the best facial hair of any DW actor

Is it about time we had a goated Doctor? Could we, ever, after Delgado?

Agreed. Delgado absolutely kicks the shit out of all the other Masters throughout the show's history. Soooooooo much better than the hammy Anthony Ainley, and the cartoony Eric Roberts. Or the cringe worthy John Simm, or the abomination that is Missy. The only person that even comes close to touching his greatness is Derek Jacobi, but sadly he only got about two minutes of screen time as the Master.

I will say however, I really liked Anthony Ainley in the last ever Classic Who episode "Survival". That was easily his best performance by far. In that story, they actually let him play the Master the way HE wanted to, and not in the OTT panto way the writers forced him to.

Its ironic that Moffat trashed Delgado's character and legacy as an actor for good in a story about the dead coming back to life. If the dead could actually come back to life, then William Hartnell, Roger Delgado, Barry Letts, Anthony Ainley, John Nathan Turner, Nicholas Courtney, Terry Nation and Bob Holmes would take a hatchet to Moffat just like he did to their life's work.

Delgado was the Don Dada of all Masters.

Loved the Holmesian-like exchanges between him and Pertwee,

Such a shame we were denied a potentially God-like face-off between him and Tom.

I find Ainsley immensely enjoyable too, but you can't deny he's hammy-as-fuck. One of the best over-actors ever.

Anyone listened to the Big Finish audios? Geoffery Beavers is quite good. Not sure about the bold master guy they have now though.

They talked of David Warner playing the Doctor after Colin, tho I'd have been curious to see him play the Master. Truly one of the best movie villain actors in the trade.

Delgado would've been well into his sixties by the time of the JNT Doctors and 71 at the time of Survival. Sometimes, you gotta let a guy call time on a role. Delgado wanted to be more than the Master... and said as much.
