I don't think he was particularly good as Radagast so a bigger role as Bilbo would have been as mistake.
The casting was generally fine. Freeman was excellent as Bilbo. I dont see what McCoy could have bought to the role to improve the representation of Bilbo in the film.
The film could have been improved, maybe by deleting the chick-flick romance between Legolas and the lovely Evangeline Lilly / Tauriel, and condensing the three films into two.
