The World Is Not Enough. The pre-title sequence boat chase is still one of the most exciting sequences in the franchise post LTK and David Arnold composes what is easily his best Bond score. I also really like Denise Richards and find her to be one of the most attractive girls in the series. The plot sometimes becomes convoluted and Renard is hardly one of the coolest villains ever, but the set pieces still impress and Brosnan has more of a presence here than he did in his first two outings.

Goldeneye.
It was all downhill from there.

I would like that film even more if they replaced Eric Serra's insipid score with something else. It sounded like he was trying to make the most irritating noises possible using whatever equipment he owned at the time.

Goldeneye. Still my favorite film in the series.
Tomorrow Never Dies is an enjoyable popcorn flick although its really a forgettable remake of The Spy Who Loved Me.
The World Is Not Enough is just fucking dull despite its interesting villains.
The less said about Die Another Day, the better....

The racing music is dire as is the original tank chase music and the end credits song. but most of the other stuff is nice, it gives it an rather experimental edge and contributes to Goldeneye's standalone feel.
Arnold's first few scores were alright but his later stuff just sounded generic and stale in my opinion.

Tomorrow Never Dies - I remember, at the time I wasn't convinced that I liked "the new Bond" after Goldeneye. But Tomorrow Never Dies convinced me. The Spy Who Loved Me was always one of my favorite Bond movies too.
I think Tomorrow Never Dies is definitely his best, and Die Another Day is definitely his weakest. As for the other two, I'd probably rank Goldeneye over The World is not Enough.

Shit, sorry. I edited your post by accident. I was trying to quote you but I didn't realize I had pressed the edit button instead.
Considering the other girl tried to kill him on several occasions I'd say he made the right call in sticking with Denise Richards

Damnit, Maxil...!
Okay I'll try again
For me I think what killed my investment in Tomorrow Never Dies is that Pryce's motivations (start a global war to sell more papers) were a bridge too far to buy even for a Bond villain. It felt like the makers were writing an Austin Powers parody rather than the real deal.
The World Is Not Enough I actually thought had a beautiful premise, but it ended up feeling more fragmented than anything, and overall just a lot of smoke and mirrors. Carlisle's villain was wasted and underused to the point I barely even remember him being in it. And I still think ultimately Bond ended up with the wrong Bond girl (or at least the less interesting one).
Die Another Day.... that actually felt more like a really dumb Vin Diesel vehicle rather than a Bond film. Just cringe overall really.

Goldeneye.
Its a bit confusing in places (you just have to concentrate) but on the whole it was fresh, good fun and Pierce Brosnan made an excellent Bond. I would have liked to see Dalton back but then again he would have been too old by 1997.

Probably Goldeneye, but none of them are very good. The Brosnan era feels like a desperate attempt to get back to the Moore era after the perceived failure of the Dalton era, but lacks its charm or humour and, frankly, the superior leading man.
By the time you get to Die Another Day it's clear you've got a production team that want him to be Moore, but he wants to be Connery, while in truth he's not much cop at being either.

Goldeneye by a mile. Full of memorable characters, Sean Bean had one of his best death scenes (and he's had more than most), and the game was astoundingly good even for a non-1st shooter fan.
Tomorrow: petulant Pryce villain, flat direction, no Bond girl chemistry.
World: ok, but ridiculously predictable twist which robbed Renard of any menace. Shit double entendres at the end, like putting Roger Moore in a Connery 007 film.
Die: absolutely awful, particularly from the sword fight onwards.

Die Another Day beats the shit out of Quantum of Solace. I also prefer it to the ridiculously overrated Casino Royale and the terminally boring Goldfinger. Fight me, Bond fans!

I don't like any of the Craig films either and I can't remember Goldfinger.

Goldeneye, although it did not convert me into a Brosnan fan at the time, my loyalty was to Dalton so I didn't see it for many years, my brother went to see it instead of me when we were little and it took until 2006's Casino Royale for me to see any Bond on the big screen. Afterwards I collected the Ultimate Edition DVDs and caught the movie in Christmas 2007.
I have a fondness for Tomorrow Never Dies and the pre-titles of World is Not Enough pretty much save the movie. Die Another Day is another one with a great pre-titles sequence, but goes downhill immediately after.

Goldenfinger. My second favourite Bond film, behind On Her Majesty's Secret Service. I like the Brosnan films more than most, at least they're still in the spirit of the over-the-top nature of James Bond, and have more heart than 90% of the Craig movies. Die Another Day is also a guilty pleasure of mine. It's so dumb, but it's also so entertaining just because of how dumb it is.

I gave Die Another Day a rewatch last night.
I thought it started quite strongly. But then seems to just default back into derivative fanservice rather than having enough original ideas to be a film in its own right.
The film starts grimly enough but seems to struggle knowing how seriously to take itself. Rosamund Pike's motives make no sense. Halle Berry just feels awkward. If comes off more as farce than a proper Bond film, but wastes the potential it seemed to have to do something darker with a Bond with PTSD.

Yes.
I felt it was a return to the days of the more farcical Moore efforts. After a protracted period of making the films more serious, "Die" just seems to go backwards. Its as if Barbara Broccoli found an old Moore script in Cubby's soiled underpants draw and, despite the fact her father had written "Taking the piss?" in red ink on every page, Babs used it anyway.
And the theme tune was just shit. Quantum of Solace is the only Bond theme i dislike more.
I don't write it off completely. I like all the Bond films really, but "Die" is the weakest Pierece Brosnan one for me.

A few years back I did a James Bond slogathon watching every single film in sequence and "Golden Eye" is the only Pierce Brosnan one I can remember.
I can't remember a fucking thing about the Craig Daniels films either, only being disappointed in that they didn't live up to the hype.
My ones I enjoyed most of the slogathon were "On Her Majesty's Secret Service","For Your Eyes Only" and only because it was just so fucking stupid "Octopussy"

OHMSS is definitely the best Bond film ever made. For Your Eyes Only is absolutely turgid. They had to make it drab and bring Bond "back down to Earth" because so many idiots complained about the OTT nature of Moonraker. The whole thing is just a dreary retread of The Spy Who Loved Me with elements from OHMSS thrown in at the beginning for some reason. Octopussy is so much better because it doesn't give a toss about how goofy it is. I fucking love the Tuk Tuk chase and the epic Tarzan stuff in the jungle and anyone who doesn't is a humourless fool. I'd fuck the shit out of Maud Adams.

The whole thing picks up when Graves and Frost appear. I actually like most of it although Halle Berry's terrible acting is incredibly off-putting.It doesn't help that her character is just a generic "I'm your equal!" type character. I'll always defend Denise Richards in TWINE, but I just can't think of many good things that Halle did in DAD.

For Your Eyes Only was slightly darker and grittier than the previous Moore efforts but it still had lots of humor and fun in it for the most part but it was hardly Daniel Craig levels of drab and boring. Octopussy is the weakest Moore for me, despite the odd fun moment such as the two you listed and Rita Coolidge's theme song, the whole thing just feels very bland and vanilla in my opinion.

I actually prefer "For Your Eyes Only" to "Moonraker" which you can tell was scripted on the fly and rush released in a cynical attempt to cash in on the Star Wars fad.
Whilst it's true that FYEO IS a retread of The Spy Who Loved Me with elements from OHMSS thrown in at the beginning, that's probably the very reason why I like it.
