This is probably the best place to ask. After a few hiccups I'm finally back on my journey of self improvement. I exercise mostly everyday, have stopped masturbating and looking at porno imagery, eat well and feel way more confident than I do a few months ago. I'm still very depressed and sometimes lose focus, but I'm ready to find that special someone now. This is where it gets complicated. I've never tried dating online before and aspects of it rub me up the wrong way. What should I do first?

Get out in the real world and join groups where you'll meet someone naturally. Online dating sucks. It's a waste of time and effort trying to dig out the few decent girls from all the liars, slags and jelly brains.
It's an industry after all. Meet people irl and you'll have time to work out who's nice without being signed up to an expensive website, nor have to pay for a series of dates with people you're never going to see again.

I've never been down that road, but I'd definitely take Boofer's advice if I were you.

Thanks for the advice. Online dating seems so cold and shallow to me. Swipe left, swipe right. I'd rather find love the old fashioned way than play silly games like that.

Been dating my gal now for 5 years. A beautiful Chinese-Candian girl. I'm no looker, nor that successful, but I still got there in the end.
My advice is to simply be a gentleman, but also be yourself. Try and talk on positive things, and steer away from things that may bring the mood down. Go at a slow pace. Treat it as a friendship and first, and just build on it. If you rush it you risk scaring the people you meet away. If you come across as desperate, they may think you want them for other reasons, and not friendship.
Finally, don't be surprised when it happens. I never in my wildest dreams dared to believe a guy like me would land a girl like I have. I thought it impossible, but it just happened. Started out as a co-worker who I took under my wing to help through some bad times. Became close friends, and after a year started dating.
Best of luck.

That's a very inspirational story. Thanks for sharing that. I've come across as desperate before so I'm definitely going to be avoiding that mistake in the future.

Don't do what I did and take your date into a slippy pub area, where she slips and brings down some of the stone decorations on herself, breaking her foot - whilst I was having my photo taken with a bunch of England fans who thought I was ex-midfielder David Platt.
That would be my advice!
