Isn't NuWho just a paragon of wholesomeness?

Indeed. Apparently it “took the show seriously” after the “joke” the series had allegedly become during the late 80s (as referred to as such by RTD himself), yet NuWho has always been a series that adheres to outright idiocy and immaturity when compared to the original series. From Barrowman referring to his erection in “Bad Wolf/Farting of the Ways” (“Your viewing figures just went up”) and subsequently pulling a gun from his arse, to further erectile jokes concerning the Sonic Screwdriver in “Day of the Doctor” and “The Husbands of River Song” and the one you yourself mentioned in “The Doctor Falls” on another thread, to the Doctor shagging Queen Elizabeth I for no narrative reason whatsoever, to Jackie Tyler’s utterly idiotic and infantile seduction of Elton in “Love and Monsters” (not to mention the utterly redundant oral sex joke implemented towards that awful story’s conclusion), to countless other examples, NuWho has always celebrated vacuity within comedy.

This extends further to farting aliens, the moronic subtext concerning fat people in many of RTD’s other scripts, the Doctor making shite quips of a similar kind “squeaky bum time”, etc.

TruWho referenced existentialism (The Daemons), Plato (The Time Monster), the concept of death in its most perverted variations under the guise of an Evelyn Waugh satirical novel (Revelation of the Daleks), Carl Jung and Jean Cocteau (Warrior’s Gate), entropy, faith in its most emotionally challenging forms (The Curse of Fenric), commentaries on progress within an environment where variations of religion dominate proceedings and where science is distorted (The Brain of Morbius), references to Oscar Wilde and Nietzsche (The Green Death) etc.

Meanwhile, NuWho specialises in knob gags and fart jokes. A tragic summary of NuWho’s audience when compared to TruWho’s audience. Unwholesome and intellectually vacuous in equal measure- charming indeed.

80s Who, specifically the McCoy era, is the ultimate scapegoat used by NuWho writers, fans and show-runners alike. They all seem to remember things the way they didn't actually happen...

It’s also interesting to note that they never explain their reasoning behind this- most of the sound-bites they use lack any explanations, and also simply extend the rhetoric of NuWho being “fantastic” and “brilliant” (dating back to RTD again, and extended by Moffat). “Brilliant” in this case meaning “shite”, of course.

See this article written back in 2009. It’s as if RTD is celebrating how mediocre NuWho truly is:

It's usually pretty obvious what is and isn't a kids show. It isn't a defence for bad writing in any case.

Doctor Who has obviously always been written for teenagers at the least.

I'd say that The Hartnell era, while certainly dark especially with stories like The Daleks Master Plan and The Massacre, the historical stories were meant to educate the younger audience about history.

I'll be honest, I have no problems calling my favourite TV show a kids show. If anything, calling Doctor Who a kids show only makes me love it more because it shows that kids shows can have complex and mature themes being put subtly. In fact, I prefer mature themes in kids TV shows as opposed to adult shows, because they are more subtle and nuanced as opposed to a lot of adult shows which can be in your face about the themes or even being overly edgy with the themes. Shows and Movies like Batman The Animated Series (fuck it, the DCAU as a whole), Spirited Away, Steven Universe, Kung Fu Panda 1 and 2, and yes Doctor Who do nuanced mature themes in a more thoughtful manner.

To ClockworkOcean's original post, yes these sort of jokes are pretty immature and annoyingly constant, but I don't think that the original poster of the video took into consideration about the man-bashing/SJW-ness that NewWho has had since 2014. I think that they were just highlighting jokes that are really not intended for the younger audience. Which, y'know, I wouldn't call a bad thing, even if said jokes are not humourous, considering that a lot of kids media have adult jokes that wouldn't exactly be suitable to kids. I mean, I love Zootopia, but there's a 5 minute sequence taking place what is essentially a nudist colony and a joke about rabbit sex/multiplying. So, I won't have double standards and call NewWho out on it, whilst being fine with other media having these form of jokes.
