I was just wondering what did most people here think of her performance or her as an actress overall?
Well I'll admit after I first saw Death in Heaven I thought her performance was terrible. Again the reason for that was because it was so divorced from the previous Masters like Delgado and Ainley. However I felt I was being a bit unfair to her to say she was a bad actress because of one performance, so I checked out her other stuff and ironically outside of DW I became a big fan. She is a brilliant performer and in hindsight I don't think she was bad as Missy. She played the role she was given well. She was at points menacing, funny, and she brought a lot of gravitas to the role, and had amazing chemistry with Capaldi. Her chemistry with Capaldi was much better than Matt and Kingstons or Tennant and Pipers. Matt and Alex Kingston just looked awkward with each other, whilst Billie Piper and Tennant where too smug
Again however the only problem was that the role she was given wasn't the Master. Also I don't think any woman would be good for the Master as they would just jar with the men who came before, but even then Missy was written out of character with the villain.
Seriously watch these two videos and tell me you don't laugh when you think she is the Master
Still I think if they had made Missy a new character who was just a love interest of the Doctor then Michelle's performance would be thought of as one of the best in DW's long history. As it is though because they tried to link her to a previous villain for divisive political reasons then it will always be controversial which is a real shame.
Still here's hoping she goes on to bigger and better things as she deserves it.
