A character could easily have been written to express that without using First Doctor.
If it ever gets remade one day, I hope someone else cast as Matt Smith's Doctor and is completely fucked over!

As for the second point, it's Lexx series four (Set on Earth) and maybe even Galactica 80 for lack of budget and vision. No matter how they crow on about super duper camera lenses.
Ironically, I did want another series long arc, but  had hoped it was more universal.
And I've heard both this series and the next are being shot back to back. So it looks like three years again.
If of course it's accepted and around by then.
Somewhere in North Korea there is a chocolate box painted grey and red with a doorbell with cut wires from it.
And at the desk their leader says "Let me see how they fuck it up! Then press!".

But if it was a new character it wouldn't be symbolic of the old order and draw crowds in, not that I think it was a commentary on that.

Besides, the last couple of episodes tied into the Tenth Planet before Whitaker was announced and Moffat said he wanted to bring back the first Doctor for the 50th but couldn't.

You could say it's symbolic because symbolism is about interpretation but it isn't the author passing commentary. Moffat is capable of having terrible ideas independent of fandom's reaction. Fuck me, he has made a career out of it.

Doctor Who Christmas special 2017: Synopses and photos revealed by BBC
** Spoilers for the series 10 finale ahead **

Jack Shepherd @JackJShepherd Monday 3 July 2017 08:59 BST

"Right now, I’ve just been on the set of the First Doctor’s TARDIS which has been beautifully recreated. David Bradley’s recreation of William Hartnell is so eerily perfect, it could fool you. I’ve just been watching a scene where he is so perfectly William Hartnell, you could be convinced it’s him.”

Whitaker was announced two weeks later:

You guys want a good laugh? Someone on the Doctor Who subreddit made a thread asking why they retconned the 1st Doctor into acting like a sexist pig for the Christmas special. People on there are actually trying to defend this blatant revisionist history and lack of respect towards the show's history and original leading actor with a bunch of incredibly lame excuses.

The New Who apologist brigade get more cretinous by the month. That's what happens when you consistently defend drivel, I guess...

Someone hit the nail on the head for me personally as to who Whittakers aberration reminds them of...

Victoria Wood! Herp! Derp!

The Daily Mail are at it again, they claim the BBC could be in a legal pickle following transmission of "Twice Upon A Time", and that the estate of one of the Brigadeer's co-creators is considering taking action for the "derivative" addition of the Captain character which could harm the Lethbridge-Stewart Ip.

It's other papers as well.
Seems like a bit of a silly oversight. I'm presuming they did get permission to use Kate (since that was first done six years ago now!) so why not for this?

Staggeringly shite, and that's just Bradley.

Well, that was a big load of bull¤¤¤¤, wasn't it?

In theory, I like the concept of doing a smaller, more intimate, character-focused finale without a "big threat" or an "evil plan," but this was, like... Nothing. There was no content here. This episode was...

10% bull¤¤¤¤ sexist "jokes."

10% "You're not the real Bill." / "Yes, I am." / "No, you're not." / "Yes, I am."

15% Rusty, of all things. (Moffat, why are you so proud of a character you ripped off from a 2005 episode?)

5% lazily leaning on the Christmas Truce for completely unearned pathos.

And 60% hot air.

I ¤¤¤¤ing hate the Doctor "lecturing" his future self, by the way. "Never tell anyone your name." Gee, really? Do you think? Do you really think she needs that explained to her? How pointlessly patronizing can you be to your own self?

Meanwhile, "only children can hear it" is a weird ¤¤¤¤ing thing to say when we know he told it to River Song. Did you forget your own plot points, Steven?

Nicked that off GB - he is spot on though LOL
