Nice. I will say though Gary Russell has sadly become a bit of a dick. He was boasting about how he is going to block all of the people who don't like a female Doctor.

Why these assholes like him think its a good idea to block and insult and sneer at the people who have made their careers, in order to win round a group of spoiled, privileged, whiny little brats like Whovian Feminism, who don't actually give a shit about the show will remain a mystery.

He always was a twat. I've said this before, but him "bagging" the City of Death review in the the 4th Doctor Special DWM did - a celebration of his era - just so he could slag it off because everyone else likes it, made him a prick of the highest order even then.

Also again how many female led series does Gary Russell like? Never once seen him comment on a female led series. His entire life is devoted to shows like DW.

I know I always bring that up but its true. ALL of these big female Doctor advocates whose first line of attack against the naysayers is "you just can't stand anything with a female hero". All of these people from Whovian Feminism to Robert Shearman to Mr TARDIS to Paul Cornell to Richard H Cooper NEVER review or talk about female led shows, films, or books. They probably couldn't name you 5 tv shows that star a woman. If you said the names Honor Harrington, Alti, Prue Halliwell or Emma Swann these people who are so much more enlightened when it comes to female representation than us plebs would draw a blank.

The rest of us don't think a female hero is even remotely ground breaking, because we've seen so many of them over the past 30 years. In my case I grew up on female heroes.

We just don't like a female Doctor because its stupid to change a characters sex after 50 plus years and we all know its only happening because of bullying. Maybe if any of these twats just picked up a season or two of Xena and Once Upon A Time then they wouldn't be in such fucking amazement of a female hero. Ironically they are the people who are living in the 50s.

Personally, what annoys me the most about the pro-female Doctor crowd is the false sense of superiority they have and the insufferable air of self-righteousness a lot of them radiate. I've gotten into quite a few debates with these people over the past few months, and nearly all of them have this really smug and condescending attitude towards people like us that makes me want to gag.

They're "the true Doctor Who fans " because they'll stick with the show through thick and thin.

They're "mature and open-minded" for not rejecting a female Doctor.

They're not "stuck in the past" for embracing a female lead. Even though, like burrunjor said, a lot of these people barely even watch shows with female leads to begin with.

I've listened to hundreds of audio stories, read dozens of novels, read dozens of comics, seen all the movies, collected hundreds of pounds worth of merchandise, met actual members of the cast, and watched every single episode of both Classic and NuWho (including the reconstructions). But because I'm not happy with changing the main character's gender after 54 years and throwing decades of lore into the garbage, I'm not "a true Doctor Who fan".

Fuck you, you self-righteous little pricks.

At this point, they're welcome to it. I've better things to do than keep supporting something that no longer resembles what it is and clearly doesn't even want my vieweship anymore.

Great post. There are 4 reasons that these people who want a female Doctor don't watch ANY female led shows.

1/ They just want to moan. For many of them like Whovian Feminism and Anita Sarkeesian their entire careers are based on complaining that this is sexist.

Look at Anita's reaction to a female Doctor Who? These are people who will look at something 1000000 different ways until they can find one ridiculous way it can be made to look sexist and then they'll run with that, as though its maker beats up women. Pretty much all of the Moffat is a sexist criticisms fell under this, like the Moffat is a sexist because he had posters where Capaldi looked forward and Jenna looked to the side.

These people are ironically therefore the last on earth, even above a raving misogynist who would ever want to watch Xena, a show about two bisexual women, Buffy a show with a leading female protagonist, or Charmed with three female leads, or Once Upon A Time with a leading female hero and female villain/anti hero etc.

What could they moan about in those shows? Oh they'd probably dredge something up like "Xena is too sexy", completely ignoring her male counterparts like Hercules and Ares who weren't exactly played by big fat, baldy, sweaty guys. Still it wouldn't be as big a cause for them to rally behind, so instead they always go to male led shows like DW, Sherlock, etc.

2/ There is a huge element of spite involved too. Again look at tweets by Whovian Feminism or her articles. The misandry there is astounding. She wanted a female Doctor in the hopes of upsetting the male fans who didn't want it, as in her mind ALL male fans are entitled, privileged, shitlords.

3/They are cucked self loathing fanboys like Mr TARDIS, and they actually feel guilty for preferring male led series to female led ones. Obviously its not sexist if you happen ton prefer DW and Star Trek to Xena and Buffy. There can be so many reasons for why you prefer one show to another. These people however are so wrapped up in identity politics shit and probably know a blue haired, screaming harpie feminist, that they actually think its their own internalised misogyny that's the reason that they prefer Doctor and Star Trek to Xena and Buffy.

So they want to make DW and any other male led franchise they like feminised from top to bottom to ease their own "guilt" and when they accuse us of not liking anything starring a woman they are  projecting their own stupid insecurities onto us.

4/ Its an ego thing. A lot of these people, particularly the men want to be seen as the modern day version of the guys who stood up for Kirk kissing Uhura (the great irony is that William Shatner HATES these cunts and feels that they are destroying sci fi and fantasy fandoms and was pro Gamer Gate too. )

So they try and twist this female Doctor thing into being a similar situation when its not. Back then representation was a daring thing to do, as our society was inherently racist. Nowadays however would anyone even notice or care if there was a black lead?

Red Dwarf has a black guy as its leading character does anyone care? Does anyone even notice that an interracial love story drives whole seasons of Red Dwarf (Lister and Kochanski).

However these people want it to be the 60s during the civil rights movement so they can appear to be the big liberal icons like Gene Roddenberry who fought against racism.

Neil Gaiman absolutely falls under this category. Look at this obnoxious quote.

A large percentage of, not all, but a large percentage of the female Doctor brigade are the most hypocritical, obnoxious, conceited, bigots ever to disgrace a fandom, and the fact that they were allowed to vandalise and destroy a cultural icon like DW is beyond shameful.

I also think it's worth pointing out that 90% of the insults and hostility directed across the interwebs actually come from the PRO side of the female Doctor camp. Not the anti side.

I've been on dozens of forums in the past few months, and I can count on two hands the number of times I've seen an anti female Doctor fan insult any of the female Doctor advocates for having a different opinion than theirs.

I've never seen an anti female Doctor fan tell someone they're "not a true fan of the show" for being perfectly okay with a female Doctor.

I've never seen an anti female Doctor fan tell someone they're ignorant or stupid for being perfectly okay with 50+ years of lore being completely disregarded.

Meanwhile, I regularly see members of the pro female Doctor brigade call out people who aren't okay with the gender swap with insults like "sexist", "misogynist", "neckbeard", "virgin", "basement dweller", "manchild", "nerd", etc.

Hell, Peter Davison actually got run off of Twitter because of these fucking self-righteous pricks. For having the sheer audacity to politely ask them to not be so scornful of fans reluctant about the prospect of having a female Doctor. He actually had to QUIT TWITTER BECAUSE THE ABUSE HE WAS GETTING WAS TOO MUCH FOR HIM.
