Why is Jamie Mathieson not taking over as head writer?!?!?!

His stories are clearly the best we have in Nuwho:

Mummy on the Orient Express

Flatline

The Girl Who Died - ok, a bit iffy

Oxygen

He probably lacks the experience for the BBC to feel comfortable giving him the show. RTD, Moffat and Chibnall had all created their own successful shows before getting the job so it wasn't as big of a risk.

Let's just hope he gets to stick around when the show takes an American style writer's room next series. If he's vocal he could have a lot of influence over the show.

According to this, he may be done with Who now...

Would be how I'd rank his stories*. I'll miss him if he never writes for the show again. But I hope he goes further with non-Doctor Who projects.

*=Not sure you were doing a ranking but there it is.

I agree with that ranking 100%. I found Oxygen a little disappointing but I'll have to rewatch it before I make a final opinion of it, I'm not sure if the episode fell flat or if I just hyped it up to much because it was the one episode I had high hopes for.

I didn't care for The Girl Who Died much but considering Moffat co-wrote it and it was still ok while part 2 was one of the worst episodes of the series, I'm willing to give Mathieson a pass and say he was probably the one who saved it as best he could.

It would be a big mistake if they don't keep him around but I'm sure he has a bright future ahead of him.

Welcome to the Hive Rick.

I personally wasn't keen on that episode tonight. It was okay, some scares sure, but the resolution was a bit of a cop out, and the zombies were kind of lame. For the first time I also wasn't too keen on Capaldi either. He seemed a bit too frantic.

Having said that yes I would agree Jamie is a good writer all around, but he may not be a good showrunner.

After all a good showrunner isn't always a good writer. Barry Letts for instance was IMO the best producer in DW's history. However as a writer he was kind of sub par.

Not a fan of the Daemons, whilst Planet of Spiders is really shitty.

Then of course there is Moff who was an excellent writer, but a poor showrunner.
