Obviously as you can tell from my profile pic I am something of a fan. Amy IMO can easily hold her own with any of the great singer/songwriters.

These are some of her best songs.

I was so gutted when she died its not true. Her and Rik Mayall's deaths upset me more than any other celebrity death. Don't get me wrong I am not saying that their lives were more important than any other, but I think its true that there are a couple of celebrities whose work you feel a greater connection with.

Couldn't stand her or her music myself. The worst thing about her death was that I had to put up with her music being played all the time for at least a month until she was forgotten.

Rik Mayall is the only celeb death that upset me. Peaches Geldof got close because we were the same age at the time and it was scary to think someone my age could just drop dead... then it was revealed to be drugs.

Paul Walker and Anton Yelchin were close because they were both so shocking and unexpected.

Forgotten?

I'd hardly say she was forgotten considering just last year a film about her life won an Oscar, whilst Back to Black is one of the best selling albums of this year over 11 years after it was first released.

On top of that Rumer Willis's character Tory Wilis in Empire was based on Amy Winehouse.

Hell even the Penguin from Gotham just sang a cover of her in the show itself.

Don't remember the Gotham cover, but, eh, whatever. We'll just have to agree to disagree. I can't say I've enjoyed any of her songs I've heard, including the ones you posted. She's on the same level as Ed Sheeran to me where I beg for it to stop any time they show up.

Not to say it's bad, but I don't get it at all.

I can't bring myself to listen to an album in full of her.
Maybe I will one day. I can't stand the "I died" and however many times she sang.
It also didn't help me that every live footage I've found she was too ropey. Unless that's supposed to be her style.
Although I do wish we still had her instead of Adele !

You gave me PTSD by disagreeing with me LOL.

Seriously though I suppose points in her favour from an objective point of view would be the following.

Wide range in terms of emotional content. She could do both dark and light hearted songs.

Wide range in terms of genres too. Everything from Jazz to Ska to Soul to RnB.

Wrote her own songs too, and won great acclaim as a songwriter.

Was very influential and inspired dozens of other prominent singers, in fact just about all of the most successful that came after her.

Her live performances were excellent at the start of her career, but yeah sadly in the later years due to her problems she was often fucked up on stage.

TBF she is not the only singer to fuck up that way. Jim Morrison for instance was regularly pissed at concerts. However I guess he was lucky in that back then people couldn't film him and so his ropey performances on their phones and post them online.

Love is a Losing Game is her masterpiece IMO. You should check it out.

As for the whole Amy vs Adele thing well, I must admit it did annoy me when people would gather round to lick Adele's arse for things Amy and indeed many other female singers did first.

To be fair though it wasn't Adele's fault. I feel that a lot of these people simply saw Adele as a safe alternative to Amy, as she was obviously much less rock and roll.
